Blu Cigs Review

Packaging

As far as Blu’s packaging goes, it’s straight up cigarette traditional. The traditional “pack” look of e cigarettes is becoming more and more prevalent and Blu was one of the first ones to come out with a pack like this. Maybe not THE first, but one of them. They have added to the concept, albeit strangely, by creating a “social” feature to their pack that alerts you to other Blu users near you when you’re in public. Not a huge fan of this, but that’s just because I find it a little quirky and irrelevant to the product itself. Packaging is good, social feature… ehh… I’m neutral one way or another and do not fall for the social advertising gimmicks that easily.

Battery

The only thing that I don’t like about the Blu batteries is that they can be a bit over sensitive. A lot of e cigarette batteries do this and it can cause your battery to deplete a lot faster than it normally would. Cartomizers are definitely a step up from the traditional 3 piece product design of a battery, atomizer, and refill cartridge.

Flavor

The flavor has a bit to be desired, but the vapor is enough to let you know that the product is working well the way it’s intended. Other brands have better tobacco and menthol flavors, but flavor preference is something that changes with everyone. If you’re dissatisfied with the flavor of an e cig, the best solution is to either switch brands or use a 3 piece type that can be filled with your favorite e-liquid. Cartomizers are great, but only if the flavor is enough to satisfy the user.

Price

The price isn’t a great benefit, since their original 2 battery kit (don’t waste your time with a one battery kit) costs $69.95 and the one that has their “premium” social feature is $79.95. I don’t believe the social features warrant a price hike of $10, simply because I don’t use e cigarettes to try and make friends. A woman who smokes Virginia Slims doesn’t go out and specifically seek other women who smoke Virginia Slims and neither does a Pall Mall man go out and scour the earth looking for other Pall Mall men. The whole idea just doesn’t make sense.

Overall

If you’re looking at Blu to be your first e cigarette, that’s great, but there are better brands out there. The kit is standard and the price isn’t too outrageous like some other high end brands. The flavor isn’t bad and the battery life is average, but if you’re wanting a product that is being well traveled through celebrity cliques, this is it. The social feature is a little over sold and serves no practical purpose to most people.
